About

After graduating from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2004, where he was a member of the famed Innocence Project, Yaacov Brisman worked for two of the most well-known law firms in New Jersey. In 2010, Yaacov was one of the founding partners of a new law firm, helping to build it to more than 30 attorneys.

In 2017, Yaacov decided to start his own firm, with a strict focus on directly servicing his clients. An expert in Labor and Employment law, Yaacov focuses his practice on the representation of private and public employers in all labor and employment matters, including disciplinary matters, arbitrations, employment discrimination issues and collective bargaining. Yaacov provides advice and counsel to clients to ensure compliance with all State and Federal laws and has expertise in prevention strategies to avoid many of the pitfalls employers face. Yaacov is regularly retained to draft and update Employee Handbooks and to review employment policies and is widely sought after for his training seminars, including affirmative action training and prevention of harassment and discrimination.

Yaacov also specializes in the general legal representation of public school districts and other educational institutions, including the full range of employee-related matters and special education matters. He gives seminars on bullying issues and provides specialized training for special education providers.

In addition, Yaacov serves as General Counsel for private corporations, and has provided counsel to real estate developers and regional corporations. Yaacov is also an adjunct professor at St. Peters University, where he teaches courses in Education Law and Policy.

Yaacov has appeared before the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court, Federal District Court, State Courts, the Office of Administrative Law and administrative agencies, including the Public Employment Relations Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission. He has been involved in complex litigation concerning insurance coverage claims, labor union work stoppages, the State of New Jersey school funding formulas, charter school applications, among others. In the case, In re Montclair Board of Education, 33 NJPER 59 (2007), Mr. Brisman successfully litigated a matter of first impression, wherein PERC ruled that a school district may transfer an employee accused of sexual harassment, notwithstanding a disciplinary element to the transfer.

Yaacov is also actively involved in community affairs. He has served as a Commissioner on the Passaic City Zoning Board of Adjustment since 2008, and has been a Board Member of the Board of Directors for Jewish Family Services of Passaic-Clifton since 2013. Yaacov was the founding President, serving for 10 years, of a congregation in Passaic, NJ. Yaacov has also served as the emcee for the COJO of Flatbush gala in Brooklyn, New York.

Yaacov has been honored by Agudath Israel of America, a national organization, and by Yeshiva K’tana of Passaic, the second largest private school in New Jersey.
